Favourite movies

I’ve always been a fan of movies, however I’m always that person who watches them online for the first time, months, or even years after they’ve been released in the cinema. From the action genre with Bruce willis blowin’ shit up, to sci-fi with lightsabers and un-earth like creatures. I’m not really picky with films, and I’ll pretty much watch anything as long as it has a good storyline.

I recently watched Interstellar for the first time, after it came out about 4 months ago. At first, I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. I was thinking it may be one of these super cheesy and horrible sci-fi films with the typical alien and space adventure. However, not long into it, this film had me glued to the screen. This film was amazing. For those who haven’t seen it, it’s basically about a father who pilots a space shuttle through a wormhole to find other liveable planets in order to save mankind. However, he has to leave his two children on earth, and every hour he spends on the other side of this wormhole, a year or so passes on earth, meaning he misses his children growing up. Mathew McConaughey plays the former NASA pilot, and he plays it beautifully. His powerful character shows ‘having balls’ to the fullest extent. By far one of the most amazing films I’ve watched, and the ending moments definitely had me wanting more. I recommend this film to anyone who hasn’t seen it.

Now, I’m definitely not going to write reviews about all of my favourite films, because that would be long and boring. However, I will list them and please if you’ve seen any of the films listen, feel free to comment your thoughts about these films. I will write a little about my most favourite films which have inspired me most. I won’t list the films in order of favouritism because that would just be impossible.

1) interstellar
2) The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman
3) The Beach

The Beach is a beautiful film which shows the beauty of the Thai Island Koh Phi Phi. It represents an escape from the world, however not all bad happenings can be hidden from. This film shows beauty in the world, people and emotions. Definitely a good watch.

4) Into The Wild
5) Men of Honour
6) Invincible
7) Remember the Titans
8) Walk The Line

This film is based on the life of country and rock and roll singer and musician, Johnny Cash. It shows his childhood, struggles and how he became the famous person we know him to be. An amazing representation of the singer and his adventurous life dealing with not only the music industry, but personal struggles also. Easy 10/10.

9) Lone Survivor
10) Saving Private Ryan
11) Dallas Buyers Club
12) 12 Years a Slave
13) Rudy
14) Slumdog Millionaire
15) Stand By Me
16) Green Street
17) The Green Mile
18) Shawshank Redemption
19) Captain Phillips
20) The Way

The Way and The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman, are definitely two two films that inspired me to travel and see the world. They’re both very different films, with very different story lines, however they do have some similarities. They’re beautiful films showing the beauty of the world, and people overcoming their struggles. Travelling was never a first option for them, but certain events have led them to packing their bags and seeing new places. Both of these films are filmed in countries that I wish to one day see, Bucharest and on the El Camino, Spain, which is one reason why I like these films so much. They’re give a sense of friendship and show just a little of how much you can do if you just try. If you have a spare two hours, definitely watch these two films.

If there are any films, books, music or whatever platform that inspire you, treasure them. They’ll definitely push you in life. So what if they’re made up stories, if you can relate, or just be inspired by it, then that’s good enough.

  1. Great picks, Jack! I’ve been wanting to check out Interstellar since it was announced, but haven’t yet gotten to it. I’ve heard it’s extremely well done. I did manage to make it to the theater to see Captain Philips, however, and thought that was quite good as well!

  2. Hm.. I saw quite a few amazing movies even just in 2014, but none are coming to mind at the moment. 2013’s “The Fifth Estate” and “Now You See Me” were both interesting.

On the topic of space-related movies, though, have you seen the 1994 movie “Stargate”? I always found that one a fun watch.

    1. I have seen “Now You See Me” and I think that’s a good film to watch. I have seen “Stargate”, I watched it when I was younger and was addicted to it, I think I’ve possibly watched that film one too many times!

    1. I’ve never seen that but have heard a lot of good reviews about it. It’s definitely one film that I’m going to investigate soon! The Way is a beautiful film. Was actually speaking to a friend that just walked part of the Camino De Santiago that’s shown in the film, and apparently it’s crazy beautiful. Let me know your thoughts on the film!
